Doggie Swim!

Doggie Day Swim

Doggie Day Swim

DPR’s Annual Doggie Day Swim signifies the end of our outdoor swimming season, by providing dogs with a one day opportunity to partake in the pools, enjoy a swim and play fun aquatics games.

Dog lovers, join us on Saturday, September 8th from 12pm – 4pm at one of the following locations:

Francis Pool – 2535 N Street NW

Admission is free, however all dogs must have a valid and original DC Department of Health (DOH) issued dog license (no photo copies) and tag to enter the pool. If an application for a license is needed you must have the required documentation (i.e. proof of current rabies and distemper vaccinations; and proof of spaying/neutering).   Dog licenses will be issued on site. Only money orders or personal checks are accepted (no credit cards nor cash), made payable to “DC Treasurer.”  The cost of the license is $15 for dogs that are spayed/neutered and $50 for non-spayed/neutered dogs. For more information on how to obtain a dog license, please visit the DOH Dog License website page.

Attendance on the day of the event will be based on capacity at the time of arrival. During Doggie Day Swim, there will be a capacity limit in terms of the number of dogs allowed in the pool at one time; 75 dogs at Upshur Pool, 75 dogs at Randall pool and 150 dogs at Francis Pool.

To maintain order and to ensure a safe and fun event, dog owners are asked to follow these rules:

  • All dogs MUST have and wear a valid DC dog license.
  • Dog handlers must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Dog handlers cannot swim or enter the pool with their dogs.
  • Dogs must be sociable and remain leashed while on the pool deck.
  • All dogs must be current on vaccinations including rabies and distemper.
  • All dogs must be spayed/neutered.

To volunteer for Doggie Day Swim, please contact dpr.volunteer@dc.gov
Please note that Doggie Day Swim will take place rain or shine.

Great News!! Francis Dog Park/West End Dog Park is now a 501 (c)3 non profit.  We need your help and are seeking donations for us to maintain and improve the dog park.
We need to purchase a hose reel cart to hold the 250 ft. hose we have to water the trees and to buy poop bags.
FYI, DC does not supply the poop bags or provide any support in maintenance of the dog park. The bags are from donations and should only be used in the event you need an extra bag at the dog park. They are not for you to take home and supplement your personal stock…..something we have noticed several people doing!

Lastly, we are seeking donations for other dog park improvements and the possibility of resurfacing the dog park.

Please hit the “DONATE” button on our websitewww.francisdogpark.com for your tax deductible donation. If you need a copy of our certificate, let us know.

Your donations are greatly appreciated for improvements and the long term maintenance of Francis Dog Park/West End Dog Park. Thank You!

REMINDER – PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR PET to help keep the dog park clean

Tree Planting a success!

Saturday’s tree planting event with Casey Trees, was a huge success. To those of you that came out to help THANK YOU!

To those of you who missed out, we still need your help. Here’s your chance to add to the beautification of the area, and to support our community effort, by helping the trees to prosper.

The new trees need our help with 25 gallons of water per week. Please email adilibertodc@gmail.com to sign up to water. We will develop teams and a schedule for the watering brigade.

West End Dog Park – Part II

Summer greetings — it’s taken some 5-years for us to have our dog park, but have it we do… albeit in need of finishing — and ideally some expansion.

We’re reaching out to solicit any interest in helping see the task completed… if not for our dogs, then in the memory of those who’ve passed, and for those to come!

As of today; 2 benches have been installed and Casey Trees has agreed to plant trees on 3 sides of the park (none on the playing field side). This autumn or next spring… we want to plan an event we hope to celebrate, starting with food & beverages for the volunteers.

We’ve been in contact with K9 Grass Company and have received samples, towards defining our dog park finishing plan for city council review and approval in the not-too-distant future (hopefully).

Apart from Casey Trees’ donations, this endeavor will be privately funded through various fundraisers and donations — AND WE NEED YOUR HELP IN KEEPING THE DOG PARK MAINTAINED!

Get involved! Please sign up for our mailing list and we’ll keep you in the loop.
